about

The Harriets’ first, self-titled EP was cut in the recording studio at Leeds Beckett University, with additional overdubs in Zach Pygall’s home studio.

The intention of the release was to encapsulate four different sides of the Harriets’ songs up to that point. ‘Harry’ is a ferocious up-tempo surf-rock song, written and arranged in two quick writing sessions, and has been a long-serving closer or encore for the band’s live set. ‘A Thousand Other Things’ is an old song of Ben’s which was worked on intensively in the studio with multiple layers of guitars. ‘Lady With Your Name’ is a slower, more atmospheric number with a Smiths-inspired riff, and ‘Goodbye, Home Again’ a folk-rock ballad of Dan’s.

After several months of work on the record, the band put on their own launch event at Wharf Chambers, Leeds, supported by Lunablind and Ben Lucas.

about

The Harriets Leeds, UK

The Harriets are Daniel-Parker Smith and Ben Schrodel, Leeds based, high energy power pop band.

They met at a party in Leeds when they were banging on about Johnny Marr and Paul McCartney respectively, and they’ve not found a good reason to stop since. Both songwriters in search of a band, they formed The Harriets as a means of collaborating on existing tunes and continuing to write more.

Track Name: Harry (early version)
Harry wears a green shirt
He says he's got a chevy
You wouldn't want to be like him
He comes on kinda heavy

He's just running
He's just running away
He's got nothing
He's got nothing to say

Na na na
Na na na na

Harry's head is spinning
His world is spinning too
You wouldn't want to be like him
and I know he don't like you

He's just running
He's just running away
He's got nothing
He's got nothing to say

Na na na
Na na na na
Wooo
Wooo Wooo
Wooo Wooo

Harry never listens
Harry hasn't got a prayer
No-one wants to spend time with Harry
But Harry doesn't care

He's just running
He's just running away
He's got nothing
He's got nothing to say

Na na na
Na na na na
Wooo
Wooo Wooo
Wooo Wooo
Track Name: A Thousand Other Things
I tell you that I need you
Every time I call
But you don’t need me
If you’d like to say you love me
Any time at all
Then please feel free

‘Cos I know that you’re busy with a thousand other things
But it does make me feel quite low
When I wake up in the morning and I wonder what you’re doing
And I never even know

And all our conversations
Are just a waste of time
I’ve got no voice
You said that indecision
was the nature of my crime
But I wasn’t given a choice

And I know that you’re busy with a thousand other things
But it does make me feel quite low
When I wake up in the morning and I wonder what you’re doing
And I never even know

You never see me, you never see me
You never see me yeh
You never see me, you never see me
You never see me at all
Track Name: Lady With Your Name
I'm in the house tonight
It'll be some time before tomorrow
Even on a rainy night
I think about my work and you tell me
That I want it more than I need it
I want it more than I need it

You're taking him for granted
He never takes too much
It's what they wanted
Nobody even likes you much
They're only people but you don't have that human touch
No no no
You can't cure a town of all of it's troubles in a day
It'll only come to hurt the things in your head anyway
Children at your feet and a lady with your name
It doesn't make life complete which really, really really is a shame

Printed paintings on your wall
I'm searching for the songs
But I only get the rhythm
and this is simply what you look like
I guess everyone has their problems
But then I realise that yours are simply to small to defend

You're taking him for granted
He never takes too much
It's what they wanted
Nobody even likes you much
They're only people but you don't have that human touch
No no no
You can't cure a town of all of it's troubles in a day
It'll only come to hurt the things in your head anyway
Children at your feet and a lady with your name
It doesn't make life complete which really, really really is a shame

You're taking him for granted
He never takes too much
It's what they wanted
Nobody even likes you much
They're only people but you don't have that human touch
No no no
You can't cure a town of all of it's troubles in a day
It'll only come to hurt the things in your head anyway
Children at your feet and a lady with your name
It doesn't make life complete which really, really really is a shame
Track Name: Goodbye Home Again
Goodbye home again, I know I've said this before
You should know I've got to go
And I told you before

Goodbye home again and I know I've said this before
You should know I've got to go
And I told you before

Oh here she comes
I have seen her
I can't speak
I'm aching to smile
Smile like Suede girl and
Laugh like Cave girl
But we'll never from like Juliet and Romeo

So goodbye you say to I
There's some truth in your lies that you can't disguise
I know I've known you for no time at all
But you give it up for something more

Goodbye home again, I know I've said this before
You should know I've got to go
And I told you before

Goodbye home again and I know I've said this before
You should know I've got to go
And I told you before

Oh here she comes
I have seen her
I can't speak
I'm aching to sing
Sing it to me and
Sing it softly and
Make it sound like
No-one else but you

Allow me to introduce myself
As a man you used to know
I'm sorry I can't wait here
My life must go
I don't want you to worry though

Oh here she comes
I didn't seen her
And now I speak and now I sing

Goodbye home again and I know I've said this before
You should know I've got to go
And I told you before

Is there anymore to me?
Is there any cure for me?
People say there's more to me well I'm sorry but no

Goodbye home again
No
Goodbye home again
