All summertime, Eddie was tired But a kiss was a kiss, just a kiss Hardly seems fair, hardly seems kind But they found each other just in time Turns out they were only in it for the money Hanging on, me and you Hanging on, to conversations The hangers on, always hanging on Moving away, I’m sick of this place You look at me, look at him, look at who And Thomas at work said, he’d tasted your lipstick And now you’ve got nothing to say But I’m reluctantly replying to your phone calls Hanging on, me and you Hanging on, to conversations The hangers on, always hanging on I had to go home from work today Nobody came around to stay over Hanging on, me and you Hanging on, to conversations The hangers on, always hanging on Oh, hanging on Still hanging on We’re hanging on Oh, hanging on

Celandine 02:47
Come with me And shut the gate when you’re in That’s how each day would begin And we didn’t mind that the school bell’s chime Was lost in a hiss of cicadas As we went down to Celandine Get lost and the grass will create us An endless day, at any time Lying down In the woods, off the books Promise it’s not how it looks And we didn’t mind that the school bell’s chime Was lost in a hiss of cicadas As we went down to Celandine Get lost and the grass will create us An endless day, at any time Now we are older We’re not much wiser You said you loved me But people get tired And we didn’t mind that the school bell’s chime Was lost in a hiss of cicadas As we went down to Celandine Get lost and the grass will create us An endless day, at any time

about

‘The Hangers On’ was a conscious attempt by Dan to write a pure power-pop single in the typical Harriets sound, and is a staple of their live set. The song was the band’s first self-produced piece, recorded on a Tascam 32-track console in Dan’s home studio, and was released with a launch event at Jumbo Records. BBC Introducing’s Alan Raw recommended the song to ‘fans of The Stone Roses, Longpigs and Belle and Sebastian.’ The song has also been recorded in a stripped-down acoustic form for the band’s video session with Live in the Hive.

‘Celandine’ dates from 2013 and was originally recorded by Ben in a more lo-fi style, with an inferior bridge and some suspect piano playing. Dan encouraged him to reshape the song and after some boundary-pushing with the Tascam, The Harriets polished ‘Celandine’ up into a pastoral psychedelic ballad influenced by The Zombies’ - Odyssey and Oracle.
